The government of Ghana, as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus, has reportedly decided to fumigate all major markets in Accra.

According to a Kuulpeeps source, all the major markets in the capital will be shut down on Monday for fumigation purposes.

The fumigation of the markets will be carried out by the Ministry of Local Government.

This action has become necessary after the Ghana Health Service confirmed five new coronavirus cases this morning [20th March 2020], taking Ghana’s total cases to 16. All five cases were recorded in the Greater Accra Region. Three of the five cases, however, had no travel history.

According to statement issued by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the markets will reopen on the next day after the disinfection.

An update by Worldometer (a coronavirus statistics website), shows that Ghana has recorded a total of eight recoveries.
