This Is How To Deal With Wrist Pain From Typing For Extended Periods

0

After typing ‘please find attached’ all day, it is possible to develop some wrist pain. Some jobs do require you to type for long periods of time. This can lead to some discomfort in your wrist. Luckily, you’re reading this. This is what can happen when you type for extended periods of time. And, of course, how to prevent any pain.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

This is apparently a common condition. It causes pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in the hand or wrist. It strikes when swollen tendons press on a nerve in the wrist.

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Also known as ulnar nerve entrapment, whatever that means. This condition is similar to carpal tunnel. Similarly, it causes numbness and tingling in the fingers. However, it occurs when nerves become compressed in the elbow rather than the wrist.

Now that we have all that fancy medical talk out of the way, how do avoid these conditions?

Move Things Around For Maximum Comfort

Arrange your workspace. Make sure that your chair is properly adjusted for your height. Also, ensure that you are not straining to look at your monitor, or to reach your keyboard or mouse.

Let’s Get Vertical

Use the backrest of your chair. Make sure that you are not hunched over your desk. Leaning forward in your chair for long periods at a time can get discomforting. And it is a bad position to be typing in.

Arm Placement

You need to make sure that your arms and shoulders are not tilted upwards or downwards. While this might not be noticeably uncomfortable at first, the effects will end up accumulating at the end of the day.

Dude Get Up

It is unhealthy to spend your entire day with your butt glued to a chair. Whenever you are in between tasks take a walk around the office. If you can, it would also be good to stretch a bit.

Watch your posture

Make sure that your overall posture is good as well. This will reduce the accumulated strain on any one part of your body.

Okay, that’s it. These changes are hopefully unobtrusive but will have an impact on your quality of life.
