The first look glimpse of your football team’s new shirt can be a nerve-wracking experience.

You’re praying for something memorable, something original – a rejection of another soulless template that has begun to infest some corners of the beautiful game.

Maybe, depending on your disposition, you’re hoping for something a bit controversial. A daring pursuit that is likely to divide supporters and neutrals alike.

If you’re a fan of such efforts and you’re also part of the sky blue half of the Manchester divide, you’ll be very happy with these leaked images of the Citizens’ new home jersey (via the ever-reliable Footy Headlines).

The shirt features a design inspired by the mosaic portraits of various cultural icons dotted around the city’s Northern Quarter, including the Smiths, Oasis and… perhaps slightly unfortunately, United legend Eric Cantona. Let’s try and forget that last one shall we?

The shirt itself is striking, though admittedly it does look quite a lot like a broken teacup. Quite apt really, considering the shirt will be debut during the first season of City’s Champions League ban. Broken dreams and all that – very clever.

It is an improvement on this season’s minimalist design. The more garish the better in our book.

The shirt is part of Puma’s “Crafted From Culture” series which aims to create kits that pay homage to the culture of the areas they represent.

For instance, Italy’s away shirt for this summer’s Euros features a pattern inspired by the Renaissance period – particularly the artwork that was produced in the country during this time.

According to the leak, the kit should be available for you to blow your wages on in May, so make sure you get saving City fans. Shirts as interesting as this do not come around every season.
