The Ghana Rugby League, this Sunday, February 23, 2020, will hold the second edition to the 9’s Rugby League at the Legon Rugby Field at 1 pm.
This edition of the 9’s Rugby League will be used as an avenue to raise funds to support Gerald Sappor, who is battling Leukaemia and also have experts on Mental Health come over to speak to the attendees.
“February is a month of love and as such we the Rugby League Federation Ghana wish to lend a helping hand to a friend, colleague and brother while we enjoy the oval ball. This month promises to be fun-packed with the inclusion of the dropkick challenge at half times. I entreat everybody present to come try his or her hands on this,” Mr Riddick Alibah Abrokwah, organizer of the day said.
Gerald Sappor is an alumnus of the University of Ghana who is currently battling Leukaemia.
His friends started the #IStandWithGerald campaign on social media to solicit funds to pay for his medical bills.
Earlier this month, a basketball game was held at the University of Ghana basketball court with the aim of raising funds to support Gerald. Ghanaian movie stars, John Dumelo and Nikki Samonas were at the event to show their support and love for Gerald.
Gerald Sappor during his education at the University of Ghana was a member of the University of Ghana basketball team — where he won many laurels including GUSA, UPAC and African titles. He graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
