The deputy minister for Works and Housing, Eugene Boakye Antwi has announced that the sale of housing units under the Asokore Mampong Affordable Housing Project in the Ashanti Region will begin in March 2020.
The prices of the houses were also announced and many Ghanaians feel the prices are outrageous and have expressed their displeasure on Twitter.
According to the deputy minister, 1-bedroom standard will sell at GHC 99,000, 1- bedroom Special will also sell at GHC 142,500; 2- bedroom will sell at GHC 182,500 and a 3-bedroom will go for GHC 335,000.
Below are reactions of Ghanaian to the cost of the housing units:
“This is not affordable housing. We might as well go for the private real estate coz we know govt projects are of less quality. But well…only God knows the number the housing minister will buy for himself through GETfund,” Kofi Wells wrote.
“The average Ghanaian cannot afford this thus same Gov’t officials will use taxpayers money and buy it themselves. Some of these affordable houses have been abandoned at Saglime off Tsopoli – Sege Road,” Nana Kwaku Dadzie wrote.
“How many poor civil servants can afford these houses even if they should spend their entire life salary to buy. The politicians will same go behind to buy the houses just like GETFUND scholarship where politicians became beneficiaries,” Adam Abdul-Basit wrote.
“GHC 99,000 for one-bedroom?? You’re all mad. The person who began this project is mad, the people who worked on this project are mad, the people who provided the tools and equipment are mad, the people who priced the buildings are mad, and you that posted this, you’re mad,” Engbil wrote.
