After a massively-successful season one for The Witcher, which became one of the most-watched Netflix Originals in 2019 and pushing its video game The Witcher 3‘s sales past a whopping $50 million USD, there’s no surprise the streaming platform is already preparing for a second season, and now a new cast list has been revealed. Among the stars joining the show is none other than Game of Thrones‘ Tormund Giantsbane himself, Kristofer Hivju, who will be portraying the cursed hermit, Nivellen.
For those unfamiliar, Nivellen is an aristocrat who, after a sickly childhood, grew into a leader of a criminal gang. On one occasion, under his leadership, the gang robbed a temple in Gelibol, and by the coercion from his gang members, Nivellen assaulted a young priestess, who called him a “monster in a man’s skin” and subsequently cursed him to become a “monster in a monster’s skin” before killing herself. From them on, Nivellen lived in solitude with the appearance of a beast similar to the Prince in Beauty and the Beast.
Alongside Hivju will be Paul Bullion aka Billy Kitchen from Peaky Blinders, who will play the role of Lambert, another Witcher who trains Ciri in the fighting. Other characters and actors joining season two include Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, and Mecia Simson as Francesca. As expected, Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Geralt of Rivia, while Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey will all return as Yennefer, Ciri, and Jaskier respectively.
The Witcher season two is due to release some time in 2021.
