Today, President Akufo Addo delivered the 2020 State of the Nation Address at Parliament though he was suffering from a cold.

This is because, he is required by the constitution to do this at the start of any parliamentary session, which is usually once a year in February.

Just as the President walked into the parliamentary chamber to deliver the address, the NDC Members of Parliament walked out as a boycott of the president.

Though that action did not stop the president from delivering his address, the Minister of Information and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency took to Twitter to condemn the actions of the NDC MPs.

“We are setting very bad precedents in our democracy that have the ability to undermine the pillars of our governance,” he tweeted.

“We need to be very careful not to destroy the things that uphold the state,” Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added.

However, Twitter users were not having any of it. They quickly made sure to draw his attention to the fact that his own political party – the NPP also boycotted former President John Mahama.

However, others also supported the Minister’s view that what the NDC did was uncalled for.

Which of the arguments do you support?

Was the NDC right to boycott the State of the Nation Address?
