The legal cannabis market in the US is booming and edibles — food that contains cannabis — are becoming increasingly popular.
America’s first cannabis cafe recently opened in Los Angeles, although cannabis-infused food cannot currently be made on site.
Andrea Drummer is the co-founder of the cafe and one of the nation’s leading cannabis chefs.
Narrating his first experience with cannabis, she said:
“I tried it as a teen. The feeling was paranoia. I got into a serious altercation with a friend of mine and I ended up in court. I was threatened with juvenile detention and I ended up doing 200 hours of community service”.
She later got a job as an anti-drugs counsellor but everything changed when she moved to California.
She retrained as a chef but suffered sciatica — pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve — while working in busy kitchens. She decided to cannabidiol (CBD) — a non-psychoactive extract from the hemp plant — to treat the pain.
She started making cannabis-infused meals for private clients, however, her cafe can’t legally serve cannabis-infused meals.
