Government Becomes A Target Of A Major Fake News Story

Today, anybody with a computer or even a well-advanced phone with basic knowledge in graphic design can develop what would otherwise look like an original press statement.

This is one of the reasons why fake news is gaining traction in this social media age of ours where it is easy to forward or share a piece of information with your circles.

Today, the government was targeted with a major fake news story.

A number of media houses run the story that claimed that following the viral footage which captured Ghana’s Minister of Environment, Prof Frimpong Boateng discussing how they can ride on illegal mining popularly called galamsey to foot the bills of NPP in the upcoming elections, the president has ordered the IGP to arrest him and others.

According to the fake statement, after the tape was leaked Prez Nana Addo ordered IGP to arrest Prof Frimpong Boateng with immediate effect.

Well, the person who the statement was attributed to Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency has come out to say that the statement is fake.
