Facebook, a community that has connected billions of people over the world is celebrating its 16th anniversary today.
Over the past 16 years, Facebook has grown to become one of the leading social media platforms in the world. It also owns Instagram and WhatsApp too.
In celebrating Facebook’s 16th anniversary, it’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg made a post of his page, briefly talking about why he started Facebook and how he got to attain all the achievements with the Facebook.
“When I started building the website I never imagined it would grow to connect billions of people… But we believed more deeply in the power of connecting people, so we kept pushing ahead when others doubted,” he wrote.
He also talked about the lessons he has learnt since Facebook was founded. According to him, one of the most important lessons he’s learned is to “always stand up for your principles, even when they’re unpopular or out of fashion.”
Mark also highlighted the basic ideas that have guided Facebook for the last 16 years.
“We believe progress happens when you give people a voice and bring people together. That’s what we stand for.
“We know there will also be issues when you give more people a voice and new ways to connect, and we’ll keep working to address them.
“But we believe in empowering people because, at the end of the day, we believe in people,” Mark Zuckerberg wrote.
