HBO Max Announces Animated British Royal Family Satire ‘The Prince’

HBO Max has ordered an animated series that satirizes the British royal family. The idea for the series came from producer Gary Janetti’s (writer for Family Guy) Instagram account full of cheeky Prince George memes. Despite the recent storm of headlines about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plan to remove themselves from the royal family, HBO appears to be unfazed and has opted for the green light. Each character in the show will use the real names of members of the royal family.

Dubbed The Prince, the show will examine the dynamics of the royals through the eyes of six-year-old Prince George, Prince William and Princess Kate’s eldest son and heir to the British throne. It appears a slew of notable voice actors have already signed on for the show: Janetti, himself, as Prince George, Orlando Bloom as Prince Harry, Condola Rashad as Meghan Markle, Frances De La Tour as Queen Elizabeth and Iwan Rheon as Prince William, to name a few. Janetti mentioned in a statement his excitement for the coming project, nothing that he will be “bringing another series about a family ruthlessly fighting for the throne.” Furthermore, Sarah Aubrey, HBO Max’s head of original content, noted, “we can’t wait to see what Gary does with a bigger canvas to paint on than just a 1:1 square.”

So far, there have been no official dates on when the series will be airing on HBO Max.
