At the beginning of last month, The Weeknd served up a Hunter S. Thompson-inspired, Anton Tammi-directed music video for the Metro Boomin-produced record “Heartless.” Now, continuing to fuel the campaign for his next major studio project, the award-winning superstar is unveiling a new visual for his late-2019 single “Blinding Lights.”
Notably, “Blinding Lights” first hit the public’s radar as the soundtrack for the promotional film in support of the Mercedes-Benz EQC, an all-electric compact luxury SUV that is expected to hit the market later this year. Although “Blinding Lights” hasn’t even been out for a full two months yet, the song has already racked up over 330 million streams and hit the #1 spot on several different charts as well, adding to its strength as a single.
“Maybe you can show me how to love, maybe / I’m going through withdrawals / You don’t even have to do too much / You can turn me on with just a touch, baby,” The Weeknd croons on “Blinding Lights.” “I look around and Sin City’s cold and empty / No one’s around to judge me / I can’t see clearly when you’re gone.”
