Brazilian icon Ronaldinho has insisted that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi should not be considered to be the greatest player of all time.
Messi is viewed by many as perhaps the finest talent to ever grace a football pitch, and his recent acquisition of a record-setting sixth Ballon d’Or award certainly supports that point of view.
However, speaking at an exhibition game in Mexico (via AS), Ronaldinho dismissed such claims, although he was happy to admit that Messi deserves to be viewed as the best player of his generation.
“I’m glad for Messi because he’s a friend, besides he’s been a banner of Barcelona,” Ronaldinho said.
“I don’t like comparisons because it’s hard to identify who is the best in history, there’s Diego Maradona , Pelé, Ronaldo. I can’t say that Messi is the best ever, but he is the best in his time.”
Ronaldinho is viewed as one of the finest talents of all time, having won one Ballon d’Or and two FIFA World Player of the Year awards during his illustrious career.
