The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has asked property owners to verify the details of foreign nationals before renting out facilities to them.

The Commander of the Western Regional Immigration Service, DCI Dr Prosper Assimabe, says this is because of the increasing number of foreign nationals in Ghana found to have engaged in some criminal activities.

The Deputy Commissioner of Immigration said this at the beginning of a week-long event to mark this year’s International Migrants Day on December 18 in the Western.

“If you identify any foreign national if you think is living in an irregular manner, let us know and we will deal with it. The landlords are those housing these illegal migrants. So we are appealing to landlords that if they want to rent out to any individual especially a foreigner, they should let us know so we vet the individual if he or she has the requisite permit before we allow them to rent the individual.”

In line with these concerns, the GIS has on a number of occasions conducted checks on the premises of landlords and property owners while urging them to fully cooperate with the service.

GIS also visited various premises suspected to be housing foreign nationals to conduct checks on their documents in line with the law.

Despite these calls by the Immigration Service, it appears homeowners are not conversant with the renting law.
