The year 2019 has been one remarkable one for our dear country, Ghana.
The massive international media interest generated by the Year of Return has been amazing.
People from all walks of life with African roots have started having the conversation about visiting the motherland – as though it is a religious pilgrimage they must undertake at least once in their lifetime.
The Year of Return is a campaign that was launched by the Government of Ghana to mark 400 years since the first recorded slave ship landed in the United States of America in 1619.
The launch of this campaign was preceded by the historic visit of black Hollywood celebrities to Ghana last year as part of Boris Kodjoe’s Full Circle Festival.
Diggi Simmons, Anthony Jackson, Jidenna were among those who visited Ghana last December.
This year, all indications are that it will be bigger than it was last year and we are here for it.
Last week, the award-winning actress, Whoopi Goldberg invited Boris Kodjoe to her daytime talk show The View to discuss his trip to Ghana and slavery in general. The two were joined by Nikole Hannah Jones, the creator of the 1619 Project in the New York Times Magazine.
Good job to Boris!
