Gabriel Jesus extended City’s lead after 69 minutes when Kevin De Bruyne brushed off a weak challenge from Soyuncu to supply the Brazilian at the back post.
Almiron finally scored for Newcastle
Miguel Almiron ended his long wait for a Newcastle goal by scoring a stunning winner in the 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace.
The Paraguayan sent St James’ Park wild with a strike worth waiting for, smashing a left-footed volley into the top corner late on.
Steve Bruce’s men move even further up the table into ninth and it was a big day for the clubs below them.
Southampton beat Aston Villa
Southampton claimed a huge 3-1 victory against relegation rivals Aston Villa in their six-pointer on Saturday.
Danny Ings continued his good form with two goals and Jack Stephens added another, rendering Jack Grealish’s 75th-minute effort nothing but a consolation.
Norwich lost to Wolves
Meanwhile, Norwich plunged into deeper trouble by throwing away a lead at home to lose 2-1 to Wolves.
The Canaries went ahead through Todd Cantwell before goals from Romain Saiss and Raul Jimenez completed a comeback for the visitors.
Burnley got late winner against Bournemouth
Elsewhere, Burnley left it late to condemn Bournemouth to a fifth league defeat in six games as Jay Rodriguez headed the winner in the 89th minute.
Sheffield beat Brighton
And Sheffield United moved to within one point of fourth-placed Chelsea with a 1-0 victory at Brighton, John Egan the scorer early on.
Earlier in the day, Carlo Ancelotti and Mikel Arteta watched on as their new clubs Everton and Arsenal played out a dull 0-0 draw.
