‘Frozen 2’ Is The Sixth Disney Movie To Make $1 Billion This Year

Frozen 2 is the latest Disney film to cross the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

Frozen 2’s success speaks to Disney’s dominance at this year’s box office. It’s the studio’s sixth film to make 10 figures in 2019, joining Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and Captain Marvel. Frozen 2 is also the seventh-highest earning animated film ever, according to Variety.

Frozen 2 accomplished this success in a relatively short amount of time. The film became this year’s eighth-highest grossing movie after it opened in theatres on Nov. 22. It debuted to $130 million, a domestic box office record for animated movies running in November. Frozen 2 was also the first non-summer animated film to rake in over $100 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend. Since then, Frozen 2 has generated $367 million in North America and over $600 million in foreign markets.

The film continues the tales of the characters introduced in the very popular 2013 original. Frozen also had a $1 billion box office take.
