Anthony Yeboah
Just like Abedi Pele, Anthony Yeboah’s best years came before the expansion of the Ballon d’Or parameters. This was unfortunate because on his day, ‘Yegoala’ was unplayable anywhere he played. Placing second at the 1992 AFCON with Ghana, Yeboah then finished third in votes for the African Footballer of the Year.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Ulf Kirsten and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Anthony Yeboah had to share the “Torjägerkannone” in the 1992/93 season, both scoring 20 goals (Bundesliga Classic)
The next year, he went one better, only finishing behind Abedi Pele for the award after ending the season as the Bundesliga’s top scorer with 30 goals in 37 games and making the league’s Team of the Season. He also emulated Abedi’s ninth-place finish in the FIFA player of the Year award.
