Rapper, Edem has urged African musicians to unite and create a ranking scheme akin to Billboard to help validate songs made on the continent.
Edem took to Twitter to voice out the opinion, saying African musicians don’t need the American entertainment media brand to validate songs made by Africans.
Billboard is owned by the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Media Group.
Billboard publishes pieces involving news, video, opinion, reviews, events, and style, and is also known for its music charts, including the Hot 100 and Billboard 200, tracking the most popular songs and albums in different genres.
Billboard also hosts events, owns a publishing firm, and operates several TV shows.
Since making the call on Twitter, industry players like Samini have supported the cause, with Samini lauding the call with a retweet.
The way Africa Music Dey go..I pray we have our own billboards and Awards schemes and templates ,so that future generations would not look for validation from the west #Gbevu
