Asamoah Gyan is arguably one of Ghana’s best strikers to ever play for the senior national team – the Black Stars. And there’s no doubt that he is also one of the best African footballers to ever play the beautiful game.
It’s Asamoah Gyan’s birthday today. The Ghanaian football legend (yeah, he’s a legend even though he hasn’t retired yet) turns 34 today.
Asamoah Gyan has been prolific for the Black Stars and all the clubs he’s played for. He’s scored 51 goals for the Black Stars so far.
In honouring Gyan on his 34th birthday, we’ve put together 3 of (what we think are) the best goals he’s scored while donning the iconic number 3 jersey for the Black Stars.
Check them out below:
Asamoah Gyan’s opener against the Czech Republic
Asamoah Gyan scored his first World Cup goal against the Czech Republic at the 2006 World Cup in Germany under two minutes, yeah under two minutes. Asamoah Gyan’s goal was also Ghana’s first goal at the World Cup. This goal scored by Gyan, was the fastest goal scored at the 2006 World Cup.
Asamoah Gyan’s winner against USA
Asamoah Gyan came to the rescue of Ghana in the round-16 game against the USA at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Gyan scored the winner in the early minutes of the first half of extra time after the game ended 1-1 in regular time to hand Ghana a massive win. Ayew’s speculative lobbed clearance found Gyan, who stayed firm despite Carlos Bocanegra’s shoulder charge before striking in a stinging half-volley past Howard from 12 yards out.
Asamoah Gyan’s 90th-minute leveller against England
Asamoah Gyan scored a superb 90th-minute equaliser in a friendly against England at Wembley. Gyan skipped through about three England players in their penalty box; he actually dummied England defender Joleon Lescott twice and finally curled a left-foot shot into the far corner of Joe Hart’s net.
He’s just incredible.
Happy birthday to the Baby Jet!
