The Ashanti Regional Police Command has ordered for the arrest of the police officer who allegedly raped a woman at the Manso Datano Police Station in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
According to a statement released by Ghana Police Service, the police officer has been “arrested, detained and interdicted immediately.”
This follows a report by Nhyira FM of a story narrated by the woman who claimed she was raped by the police officer.
However, according to the same report, the police officer denied raping the woman and claimed that the sex was consensual.
The statement further added that the Regional Police Command has commenced an investigation into the matter and any subsequent update will be communicated to the General Public.
“The Regional Police Command would like to reiterate its stance of not shielding officers who involve themselves in criminality as is the policy of the Inspector General of Police and the Police Administration,” the statement read.
The police service also advised the victim to report immediately to the Regional Police Headquarters to assist in the investigations.
