Over the past weeks, there have been calls from media organisations and some key personalities for Ghanaians to purchase made in Ghana rice.
The calls to patronize made in Ghana rice has become one of the most talks about issues in the country.
Aspiring member of parliament for the Ayawaso-West Wuogon constituency, John Dumelo has also shared his view on the issue.
In a Twitter post, John Dumelo raised the issue of the cost of the local rice. The price of the local rice and other made in Ghana products are more expensive than the imported products, Dumelo stated.
According to him, the patriotic patience of Ghanaians will quickly run out if our local rice farmers don’t do anything pricing.
“The unit cost of producing a bag of rice depends on external factors(high-interest rates, taxes, fuel costs etc) which is beyond their [the farmers] control,” John Dumelo added.
He, however, suggested that more must be done to support farmers across the country.
It will Interest you to know that imported rice( after paying all the shipping and duties pop at the port) is still cheaper than our local rice. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a farmer and a huge advocate for consumption of made in Ghana products but the patriotic patience of Ghanaians pic.twitter.com/lTs4E5Fp0V
