“All We Want Is An Apology” – AKA Tells Burna Boy

Burna Boy and Aka had a heated exchange on Twitter in September

Following the news that Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy would be performing at an anti-xenophobia theme concert “Africa Unite” in South Africa, a number of South Africans took to social media to voice their displeasure.

The backlash reached a climax when an open letter written by musicians and organisers under the umbrella of Tshwane Entertainment Collective, to the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture raised objections against the concert and called for the department to pull its sponsorship of the event.

The petition letter particularly objected against Burna Boy’s inclusion in the concert.

The latest development in the mix, South African rapper AKA has demanded an apology from Burna Boy. AKA challenges Burna Boy to prove that he is indeed the African Giant:

“Ek se … @burnaboy all we want is an apology. We know 🇿🇦 is not perfect. But we took you in as our own before you reached these levels. You say you are an AFRICAN GIANT, prove it.”

The “Fela In Versace” rapper further tweeted that he was willing to let go of his pride and bury the hatchet:

“Leadership. I am willing to swallow my pride and put an end to this division. @burnaboy Are you?”

In the heat of the Xenophobic attacks, Burna Boy and AKA had exchanged fiery words. In a now-deleted tweet, the “Ye” crooner threatened to deal with his South Africa counterpart next time their paths crossed:

“And @akaworldwide I knew you was retarded but I didn’t know it had gotten this bad. Next time I see you you better have a big security bro, On Gambos Grave ur gunna need it.”

He later vowed not to set his foot ever in the country, except a miracle happened:

“I personally have had my own xenophobic experiences at the hands of South Africans and because of that…..

“I have not set foot in SA since 2017. And I will NOT EVER go to South Africa again for any reason until the SOUTH AFRICAN government wakes the fuck up and really performs A miracle because I don’t know how they can even possibly fix this.”

The “Africans Unite” concert will take place in Cape Town at The Lawns on the 23rd of November and Tshwane’s Sun Arena on November 24.
