Everybody is saying they’re depressed these days but do they really know what depression is? Maybe you’re just sad not depressed because depression is a serious medical disorder that affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act negatively.
It causes sadness and loss of interest in activities you usually enjoy.
It causes a variety of emotional and physical problems and it decreases a person’s ability to function at work and school.
Depression can cause a lack of sleep or oversleep. It varies from person to person. Some people gain weight when depressed and others lose weight.
We must know that being depressed is not the same as being sad. A lot of people mix the two. The death of a loved one, loss of a job, failure in school and even breakups and very painful experiences make people think they are depressed but, no aunty, that probably is sadness.
They might overlap sometimes but they’re two totally different things. Depression can affect anyone, even people you think are living in perfect conditions. But the good news is, it can be treated by medical professionals.
If you’re exhibiting these signs, it would be best to talk to a therapist as soon as possible.
