Last weekend, Frank Amoakohene pulled a major upset in the NDC parliamentary election.

The NDC organized an election to choose parliamentary candidates for three orphan constituencies in the Ashanti Region which comprised of the Asante Mampong, Atwima Mponua and Asokwa constituencies.

They will represent the party in constituency level elections come December next year.

Frank who competed in the Asante Mampong constituency pulled off an amazing win to represent the NDC in the constituency in the 2020 general election.

Frank, who polled 315 votes, beat two other contestants.

One of the two contestants was Mr Mohammed Kojo Aboasu, former the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asante Mampong, he had 294 votes.

The other contestant, Ms Bintah Fatimah Mohammed, is a deep-pocketed renowned businesswoman and an expert in business planning, she polled 251.

What makes Franks win over a seasoned politician and a well to do businesswoman is the fact that he is actually a 28-year-old student at the University of Ghana, Legon.

He is currently a Level 600 student of the University of Ghana Medical School.

Frank is currently studying Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Ghana Medical School Korle-Bu.

He has previously studied Medical Laboratory Science also at the University of Ghana, School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, Korle Bu.

The Osei Tutu Senior High School alumnus is no stranger to politics.. at least at the students level.

Below is a tall list of former leadership positions he’s held for a 28-year-old medical student:

  • Former President at NUGS – National Union of Ghana Students
  • Former Chairman, NUGS @ 50 Central Planning Committee at National Union of Ghana Students-NUGS
  • Former National Executive Member at National Union of Ghana Students-NUGS
  • Former President at NATIONAL HEALTH STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION OF GHANA
  • Former Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) at University of Ghana Hospital, Legon.
  • Former President at UGAHSA – University of Ghana Allied Health Students Association

Maybe, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Frank was able to convincingly beat his contenders at the NDC Asante Mampong Constituency election.
