A lot of people were affected by the collapse of a number of banks in the country. The banks that collapsed include; Capital Bank, UT Bank, Beige Bank, Sovereign Bank, The Construction Bank, uniBank and The Royal Bank.
These banks collapsed after they became highly insolvent, largely due to poor corporate governance decisions.
Beige Bank, The Construction Bank, The Royal Bank, uniBank and Sovereign Bank were merged by the Bank of Ghana to form the Consolidated Bank.
Many Ghanaians who worked in these banks before their collapse had to be laid off. This rendered most of them jobless.
In trying to make ends meet, some of these laid-off workers had to look for other means of earning income to cater for their families.
Christiana Larbi, who was an executive with the defunct Capital Bank had to take a bold step to venture into a field of work which is largely male-dominated after she was laid off, Citi TV reports.
Christiana has to resort to working as an Uber driver.
According to her, since she started working as an Uber driver, she’s received great responses, especially from female customers.
She, however, stated that male customers sometimes cancel trips when they find out that it’s a woman who’s driving.
Christiana Larbi is a mother with a 7-year-old daughter.
