Dr Isaac Darko Otchere Of The Noguchi Institute Wins Prestigious International Award


Ghana for the win once again…

Music lover and curious science researcher, Dr Isaac Darko Otchere has won a prestigious fellowship award in the world of science research.

Dr Otchere who is a Research Fellow with the Bacteriology Department of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research won the CAN African Career Accelerator Awards that is sponsored by The Francis Crick Institute.

He won this award with his research proposal titled “The evolution of metabolism in the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex”.

Dr Isaac Darko Otchere

In English… Dr Octhere wants to study the differences between different strains of tuberculosis (TB) pathogen and working to eventually develop vaccines, diagnostic tools and drugs.

Dr Otchere is a Bacteriologist who holds a Ph.D., an M.Phil. and B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Ghana.

The Francis Crick Institute, which is funding this award is dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease.

Their work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections and neurodegenerative diseases.
