The first annual Best in Black Fashion Awards was held in New York on Sept. 4, 2019.
It was created by ESSENCE to combat the lack of recognition that creators of colour receive, in the fashion space.
The first edition’s host was Bevy Smith and Jidenna, the Nigerian American based rapper/singer, performed hits from his latest album, ’85 To Africa.’
They honoured fashion mavens such as Rihanna and Zendaya and top designers from Fe Noel to Christopher John Rogers.
