Malia Obama began attending Harvard University in the fall of 2017.
After a couple of months of getting used to Harvard life, pictures of Obama with a mystery man began to surface, which begs the question — just who is this guy?
It didn’t take long to figure it out. He’s now known to be Obama’s rumoured boyfriend, Rory Farquharson.
Here’s everything you should know about Farquharson.
He smokes
In almost every picture from him and Malia’s outing, Farquharson could be seen with a cigarette in hand so he probably has a smoking habit. After some time a picture of Malia smoking was all over social media. It is unclear as to whether Malia was influenced by Farquharson.
He’s in Harvard
Farquharson, who is the same age as Obama, is a registered sophomore in the 2017-2018 academic year of Havard. The Telegraph reported that Farquharson followed quite a few banking-related accounts on Twitter so, if nothing else, the interest is there.
He’s British
He was the head of the private boarding school he was attending during the 2015-2016 school year. He was a member of the Chemistry Club and also played both rugby and golf. He interned in Northern Ireland at the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building.
He’s Fashionable
Even Vanity Fair claims that he and Obama both have “mastered New York City street style.” He’s been seen during his outings with Malia wearing popular and trending outfits and we are sure his fashion prowess will rub on to Malia.
He’s deleted all his social media accounts
Apparently ever since he began dating Obama, Farquharson deleted his social media. It’s disappointing to know this but it’s understandable since dating someone as popular and high profile as the ex-president’s daughter comes with a lot of scrutinies.
He has links to the British royal family
His second cousin, Andrew Farquharson, used to work for the Queen. Queen Elizabeth II made him a member of her own order of chivalry. In 2006, Andrew took on a similar role for Prince Charles before being let go in 2009 due to, as Clarence House claimed, a “review of costs.” Hmm.
He’s not a fan of Trump
Well… duh. Even though he was born and raised in the UK, he has opinions about American politics. Farquharson has shared his criticism of President Trump via social media in the past. At one time, Farquharson even retweeted a post that speculated Trump’s popular appeal would decrease throughout the year after being elected.
