Yes, it’s true.
For some ladies, they cannot insert anything into their vagina because of Vaginismus.
Vaginismus is a sexual pain disorder where the vagina suddenly tightens up just as you try to insert something into it. It can be painful and distressing, but the good news is that it can be treated.
For many women with this problem, inserting anything will not be successful but for other women, certain things can be put in there without pain or discomfort, such as a tampon or undergoing a pelvic exam, but when intercourse is attempted, penetration is impossible.
What causes it?
Usually, it’s not due to a physical deformity or disorder. It’s more of an emotional condition that occurs because of psychological reasons but manifests itself in a physical response.
Majority of women with vaginismus believe that intercourse will be very painful and think that their vagina is too small to accommodate the penis and therefore, their vagina will be ripped or stretched too far. Consequently, they develop a phobic response to the penis; associating it with pain.
Other women have experienced some type of trauma to the vagina or genital region, such as rape, sexual abuse, or surgery, which then leads to a fear of intercourse.
Women who do not feel physically or emotionally safe with their partner can also shut down their bodies. In these cases, vaginismus is not a conscious decision but is a consequence of a desire to protect their bodies and themselves.
Treatment options may include;
Psychosexual therapy
Relaxation techniques
Pelvic floor exercises
Sensate focus
Vaginal trainers
If you’re in a relationship, you can choose to involve your partner. In most cases, the treatment is successful and couples are able to move on to develop and enjoy a sexual relationship that is satisfying to them.
