We are pretty sure most of you ate some cornflakes in the morning.
Even if you don’t really eat cornflakes at home, for some reason, when going to Senior High School especially in Form 1, it will be part of the things in your chop box.
Well, Mr Kellogg, the man who created Corn Flakes, produced the cereal in the late 19th century and marketed it as a “healthy, ready-to-eat anti-masturbatory morning meal”.
Yes! You read right!
It was made as an anti-masturbatory morning meal. If you had trouble with masturbation, Mr Kellogg believed that eating cornflakes will help curb that “nasty” habit.

It was odd for someone to make a deliberately tasteless food, but it was all part of an extreme diet – promoted by his church – aimed at suppressing passion.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church and worked as a physician who staunchly believed in celibacy and that sex was unhealthy and immoral.
He believed that sex would damage the mind and body that he apparently didn’t have sex with his wife and chose to adopt all 8 of his kids. He didn’t even sleep in the same room with his wife to avoid temptation.
If having sex with your wife was bad, how much more masturbation?

In his book, Plain Facts for Old and Young: Embracing the Natural History and Hygiene of Organic Life, he listed some of the damaging symptoms of masturbating, including mood swings, baldness, stiff joints, bad posture, acne, epilepsy, palpitations and a fondness for spicy food.
Mr Kellogg’s solution to masturbation was the fact that plain foods like nuts and cereals suppressed sexual desires. With this in mind, he started creating foods which were plain tasting to curb “unnatural” desires which will cause you to want to have sex or masturbate.
Lol! So there you have it. Next time you eat cornflakes, check yourself to see if it helps repress your sexual urges and let us know what the result was.
