For some reason, people do not like having grey hair; not even the older ones. Grey hair is a sign of wisdom and maturity but it also tells you that your body is not producing enough melamine, which is an early sign of ageing.
While conventional hair dyes can cover the grey hair, they contain many harmful chemicals — which can cause hair loss, more grey hair and even adversely affect your health.
Genetics plays a vital role in greying of hair but so does stress, poor nutrition and vitamin deficiencies. So even if you can’t change your genes, you can certainly postpone greying by living a healthy and happy life.
The first step is to learn to eat right. Yes! It does make a difference.
Onions
Onions are rich in antioxidant enzyme catalase, which restores the hair’s natural colour. Besides, the phytonutrients in onion along with their vitamin C, folic acid, and copper also help to delay greying of hair. You can also apply onion juice on your scalp to reduce the build-up of hydrogen peroxide and reverse grey hair.
- Just blend a small onion in a blender and strain the juice with a sieve or muslin cloth. Mix 2 tablespoons onion juice with 1 teaspoon honey. Apply this mixture to your scalp and let it sit for about 30 minutes, then wash as usual. Repeat twice a week.
- You can also mix onion juice with equal amounts of coconut oil and follow the above instructions.
Curry leaves and oil
Boil a cupful of curry leaves in a cup of oil till they turn black. Cool, strain and store. Massage into hair 2-3 times a week. Leave overnight.
Curry leaves are full of Vitamin B and help to restore the pigment melamine in the hair follicles and prevent further greying. It is a rich source of Beta-Keratin and also prevents hair fall.
Black tea rinse
Boil a cup of water with 2 tbsps of black tea and a tsp of salt. Cool and apply generously on freshly washed hair.
Allow to dry. Repeat regularly to darken grey strands.
Black Tea has caffeine which is loaded with anti-oxidants. While adding a natural dark hue to the hair, it stimulates hair growth and strengthens it giving it a shine.
Henna and coffee
Add 1 tbsp of coffee powder to boiling hot water. Cool and make a paste with henna powder. Let it rest covered for a few hours. Mix in 1 tbsp of any oil of your choice and apply liberally covering the hair completely. Wash off after an hour.
Henna is a natural conditioner and a colourant and when combined with coffee, it gives excellent results.
We hope these help you out with your greys.
