We’ve all been in the position where we’ve tried so hard to sleep but whatever we do, sleep seems very far from you.

Work and other factors can really make it difficult to find time for rest, or to get a good night’s sleep at the end of the day. Fortunately, we can seek solace in food.

Here are some foods that you can eat before bed which will make you feel really sleepy.

Milk

Milk contains tryptophan, an amino acid that can induce feelings of sleepiness. Warm milk is a plus. Warm drinks may soothe the body into sleepiness due to the regulation of body temperature. Milk also has Vitamin D content, all of which help you get a better night’s sleep.

Honey

Glucose in honey lowers levels of orexin, orexin is a neurotransmitter in the brain that makes you more alert. Honey will put that alertness in reverse.

Rice

White rice can affect sleep, however, jasmine rice is the most effective if you’re looking to get better sleep. That said, don’t overdo it on white rice. Eating too much too often can lead to obesity or other problems.

Egg

It contains Vitamin D which helps you get a better night’s sleep.

Yoghurt

Calcium processes hormones that help you sleep which are tryptophan and melatonin.

Bananas

They are high in potassium which helps to keep you asleep. It also has tryptophan and magnesium which are natural sedatives.
