The underarm area rarely gives us any trouble, apart from sweating, and we conveniently forget all about it.
Unfortunately, the skin in this area is very sensitive and is susceptible to a variety of problems like rashes, pigmentation, infection, ingrown hair, and even pimples.
In very rare cases, dark underarms is a result of a medical condition known as acanthosis nigricans, which is related to insulin resistance, hormonal disorders, obesity, cancer, and some medications.
First of all, what is causing your dark underarms?
Some simple reasons, like excessive sweating, regular use of hair removing creams, shaving, poor ventilation of underarms, use of alcohol-based deodorants and antiperspirants can cause dark underarms.
People prefer waxing to shaving because shaving cuts your hair from the surface of the skin, which may leave dark spots behind whiles waxing will remove the hair below the surface of the skin, and it won’t leave any visible traces.
To help lighten your underarms here are 5 ways using products you’ll find at home.
Apple cider vinegar + baking soda

Mix the apple cider vinegar with the baking soda. It should start bubbling. When the bubbles subside apply the solution to the underarm area and let it dry. Let it stay for a few more minutes and then rinse using cold water and pat dry.
Cucumber
The simplest way is to rub a thin cucumber slice on your underarms. Or as with the potato, grate the cucumber and apply the juice under your arms. Repeat the treatment two times per day.
Lemon

Rub a lemon wedge on your skin for a few minutes. After that, leave the juice to stay there for 10 minutes, and then wash the area with lukewarm water. If you want exfoliation, which means killing dead skin cells as well, sprinkle some sugar on the lemon wedge. Repeat the treatment a few times per week.
Milk + turmeric + honey
Mix everything well and apply the paste to your underarms. Let it dry and then rinse. Every other day (3 times a week).
Potato
Peel and grate the potato. Squeeze the potato to get the juice out. Apply this juice to your underarms. Leave it for 15 minutes and then rinse using cold water. Twice a day: once in the morning and once before going to bed at night
Have you tried any of these? Did they work?
