Later today, Nana Appiah Mensah, the CEO of the embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold, will be addressing the media for the first time since he was released on bail by a judge in Accra.

Nana Appiah Mensah is facing 13 counts of defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, abetment and carrying on deposit-taking business without licence contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).

He has been accused of defrauding his customers to the tune of about GHC1.68 billion.

According to the charge sheet, the money was from 16,000 people who invested a total of GHC1,680,920,000 in the company.

The charge sheet indicated that Mr Appiah Mensah’s two companies; Brew Marketing Consult and Menzgold Ghana Limited have also been charged with defrauding by false pretence.

Mr Appiah Mensah’s sister and his wife; Benedicta Appiah and Rose Tetteh, have also been charged with two counts of abetment to defraud by false pretence and two counts of abetment to carry out banking business without a licence, contrary to Section 6 (1) of Act 930.

To many, his current legal battles may seem like the beginning of the end for NAM1.

However, it seems he has some more energy left to fight.

In an Instagram post, hours before he meets the media, Nana Appiah Mensah urged entrepreneurs, both at home and abroad, to beware of challenges that would bring down their businesses.

“In your journey, prior to the scaling of your Company above gravitational height into the next level, your organization and yourself would go through moments of extreme pain and scrutiny,” he wrote.

“The momentarily fall doesn’t matter, what matters is your ability to rise up, dust up quickly and keep walking. Please don’t run even if you can, please walk until you gather momentum,” NAM1 advised.

Perhaps alluding to his own story, NAM1 added that “it is ordained that friends you dinned with must betray you, families must get worn out at a point, those you broke your spine for must actually stab you in the back. Janitors must spit on your face, you must suffer psychological torture and excruciating bodily pains.”

“Learn to fight legal battles, kick some folks in the back if you strategically have to, be immune to pain if possible,” he said.

In quoting Martin Luther King Jr from “Let Nobody Turn Us Around: Voices on Resistance, Reform, and Renewal an African American Anthology” Nana Appiah Mensah said, “You don’t need to see the end of the staircase, just take the first step in FAITH.”

If this is anything to go by, then today’s press conference will be one where NAM1 displays a defiant posture.

It is during these times that you as the chief player, must prove to be worthy of your office. The momentarily fall doesn’t matter, what matters is your ability to rise up, dust up quickly and keep walking.🚶‍♂️Please don’t run even if you can, please walk until you gather momentum😀. It’s ok to be afraid but cease the fear by the horn.😀 It is ordained that, friends you dinned with must betray you, families must get worn out at a point, those you broke your spine for must actually stab you in the back. Janitors must spit on your face, you must suffer psychological torture and excruciating bodily pains. Unfortunately, mum cannot breast feed you at that point. You may be separated from those you love for a long time. If you believe in God, your only refuge, must be under “nature’s” wings.
