Lil Wayne will have a new album out by the end of this year.
The Young Money rapper appeared on New Orleans radio station Q93 in an interview with Wild Wayne which was shared on Monday (Aug. 26), and confirmed that his long-awaited “Funeral” project is on the way.
“I’m not sure. I wouldn’t count it out but the Funeral is my next album,” Wayne told the host when asked if we would ever get Tha Carter VI. “Imma be dropping that by the end of the year.”
He then gave an update on where he’s at with the album’s completion.

“Wayne, you know how I work. My album’s always done; it just takes Mack [Maine] to come in there and wrap up a couple of songs and name them,” Tunechi said. “That’s how it goes around here. I work every day, so, it just takes them to come in and say, ‘Let me get these 20 songs. Can I have these?’ and they name them and then we go from there.”
Weezy first revealed plans for the Funeral album way back in 2016 during an interview on The Nine Club podcast, though he didn’t give many details.
“Just make sure they know that Funeral is coming soon,” Wayne said at the time. “That’s my music. Get your roses ready. I don’t have a release date, but I have a whole bunch of good news coming soon. If you’re a Wayne fan, I know we’ve been going through a lot of tough times right now, but if you are a Wayne fan, we about to hold our heads high soon.”
There weren’t many updates on the project until earlier this year when the rapper posted an emoji of a coffin on his Instagram Story in April.
The project was then officially confirmed in a July interview with XXL, where Wayne also revealed that Lil Baby will be appearing on the album. ‘Funeral’ will serve as Lil Wayne’s thirteenth studio album, and his first full-length release since 2018’s Tha Carter V.
