Let’s Get You Informed, Shall We? Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Hickeys Or Love Bites!

Most, if not all of us have come across the word “hickey” especially those who used to read all those Romantic Novels (we see you guys!).

If you’re lost, hickeys are popularly known as love bites and they are bruises or bruise-like marks caused by the kissing or sucking of the skin, usually on the neck or arm.

If you do a lot of PDA (Public Display of Affection), you wouldn’t mind showing a hickey because obviously, everyone has seen you guys kiss and stuff so the hickey wouldn’t be such a big deal but on the other hand, it can also be a source of embarrassment.

For example, if you get a hickey right before an important meeting and its high up your neck, it will be so obvious… come to think of it, maybe you can use makeup to try and cover it up a little.

Hickeys are quite obvious on White people because of well, their colour but black people do get hickeys. Remember, they are bruises and if on a normal day you can get bruised by anything, you can get a love bite which could be a little obvious especially when it’s healing and it becomes darker in colour compared to your skin.

As for how long they last, it depends on the harshness of the suction action and the health of the person affected. The more intense the hickey, the longer it will stick around. If the person affected is healthy; that is, the person is well-hydrated, has good circulation and has enough iron, the shorter the hickey’s time on earth.

Generally speaking, if you have a hickey that you were given in a consensual way, you just have a hickey, and it’s probably going to be gone in a few days, so try not to stress about it if you’re feeling worried.
