Black Stars: Asamoah Gyan Claims Others Influenced Coach Kwesi Appiah To Take Away His Captaincy

What a Friday we are having on our hands…

In a first of its kind, the Black Stars General Captain has let the cat out of the bag concerning the pre-AFCON leadership row involving him and the Black Stars Coach, Kwesi Appiah.

Dede Ayew was made the captain of the Black Stars after it was stripped away from Asamoah Gyan after 7 years in the role.

In a tell-all interview Asamoah Gyan granted to Joy FM when the row happened, he “felt betrayed and felt disappointed. “I don’t have a problem with him (coach). I won’t lie to you, I felt extremely hurt.”

“I am only human. Nobody can tell me he will be happy over such a decision. If you put yourself in my shoes, you will understand,” he added.

Acknowledging that he is not the first football player to lose his captain armband, he explained that he didn’t understand why that happened to him especially when he was regularly playing club football in the lead up to the tournament.

“I am not the first person to be stripped of the armband. But mostly it happens when one has been embroiled in a scandal. Take John Terry for example,” Asamoah Gyan said.

“I will say the coach did not do well. He took his decision but how he went about it was wrong, to be honest.”

“I have no problem with the coach. We are very cool and we look forward to the future,” Asamoah added.
