Parliament has suspended its decision to construct a 450-seater parliamentary chamber worth about $200M, following intense pressure from Ghanaians.
Acting Director of Public Affairs in Parliament, Kate Addo who confirmed the decision said the parliamentary board will later give more details on the move, Citi News reports.
The decision to construct this chamber has been widely criticised by Ghanaians. Social media was buzzing last week with the hashtag (#dropthatchamber).
Ernesto Yeboah, leader of pressure group Economic Fighters League, was arrested for screaming “drop that chamber” and disturning parliament.
Another group has also threatened to demonstrate against the government’s decision on 13th July.
