There’s no doubt that Ghana is a country of laws.

However, the law only seems to work when the culprit is poor, can’t afford legal counsel and doesn’t have any highly placed political affiliations.

That’s when if you mess, you’d know that the law works and it can be very harsh.

According to Crime Check, a woman admitted to stealing five Ghana cedis from a neighbour to buy rice balls for her three children. She claims her complainant allegedly tried to strangle her so she had to fight back after pleading with her to forgive her, but to no avail.

Akyaa was subsequently fined one thousand two hundred cedis or in default, she had to serve six months in prison. She was jailed. “We had to come to her aid by paying the fine of this young lady whose irresponsible husband is nowhere to be found,” Crime Check stated.

That’s not all…

Crime Check had to pay another fine for a second lady in order to get her out of prison.

According to the other lady whose fine was paid for by Crime Check, she worked on a farm for six months for a guy called Burger, but he refused to pay her.

Burger allegedly beat her up mercilessly one afternoon when she went to see him for her money. In throwing a stone at him, it hit the windscreen of Burger’s car.

She was fined one thousand cedis by the court or in default had to serve three months. She was jailed. She claims she was not allowed to tell her side of the story in court.

Crime Check also paid her fine and had her released from the Kumasi Central Prison.

As stated earlier when poor people break the law, they are severely dealt with, however, the privileged ones are given a slap on the wrist and let go to enjoy their life of luxury.
