On Monday, May 20 2019, Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement from international football and also recused himself from selection for the 2019 AFCON. He made this decision after he was informed by the management of the Black Stars that we won’t be the captain of the team at the 2019 AFCON.
The news came as a shock to many including the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo.
On Tuesday, the President invited Black Stars head coach, Kwesi Appiah to the Jubilee House over Asamoah Gyan’s retirement. Reports also suggest that the President also talked to Asamoah Gyan on phone over the issue.
Today, Asamoah Gyan released another statement stating that he has rescinded his decision to recuse himself from selection for the 2019 AFCON after talking to the president.
News just coming in is that Coach Kwesi Appiah has announced a provisional 29-man AFCON squad and Asamoah Gyan has been included.
Dede Ayew is also included in the list that comprises of 10 defenders, 11 midfielders and 5 strikers and three goalkeepers.
Gyan would be a great addition to the team and it’s great he’s changed his mind about recusing himself from selection for the Black Stars.
