Two days after Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement from the Black Stars, he has changed his mind and decided to end his retirement.

Asamoah Gyan’s retirement announcement came after confusion in the Black Stars’ camp over the captaincy of the team.

It had been suggested that the captaincy band would be given to Dede Ayew, even when Asamoah Gyan is on the pitch playing.

That did not sit well with Asamoah Gyan who then consulted his management and his family and reached a decision to retire from the Black Stars.

However, President Akufo-Addo decided to intervene in a meeting he held with the Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah at the Flagstaff House.

After this meeting, the President reportedly had a phone conversation with Asamoah Gyan, in which we now believe the President asked Asamoah Gyan to end his retirement.

Following that “presidential request”, as Asamoah Gyan calls it, the striker has then decided to make himself available for selection to play for the Black Stars during the 2019 AFCON.

In a statement signed by Asamoah Gyan himself, the footballer said: “I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith, and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah.”

“My desire to help Ghana end the over three-decade-long wait to annex the AFCON trophy still burns strong, and I remain committed to serving this great nation and the people of Ghana,” Asamoah Gyan added.

In justifying his decision to rescind his permanent retirement from the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, in a tweet said a presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded.”

We wish Asamoah Gyan a good tournament if he gets called to the team.
