Earlier today, Asamoah Gyan, the Black Stars General Captain, met with the coach of the Ghana Black Stars, Coach Kwesi Appiah ahead of the 2019 AFCON.

This meeting came after the two men were involved in a captaincy row after the job was given to Dede Ayew.

After Dede Ayew was made the captain of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan retired from international football and made himself unavailable for selection for the 2019 AFCON.

It took the intervention of President Akufo-Addo who held a meeting with the coach and had a phone conversation with Asamoah Gyan before the footballer chose to rescind his decision.

In a statement from Asamoah Gyan, he said “I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith, and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah.”

“My desire to help Ghana end the over three-decade-long wait to annex the AFCON trophy still burns strong, and I remain committed to serving this great nation and the people of Ghana,” he said in his statement.
