Ghanaian Business Man Brings A GHS100 Million Defamation Suit Against Kennedy Agyapong And Net 2 TV

It’s another day and whole new 24 hours where Kenedy Agyapong gets hit with a different court suit.

This time it is one Hassan Zein, a Ghanaian-born-white businessman who has brought the GHS100 million suit against the member of parliament and his media organization.

According to the suit filed by Hassan Zein’s lawyer, Justice Abdulai at the High Court in Accra, Hassan wants the High Court to declare that Kennedy Agyapong and Net 2 TV has harmed his reputation.

He also wants the court to give an order requiring Net 2 to offer and publish an apology to him.

Then also, he wants the court to grant him GHS100 million in general damages as well as the cost of his legal fees.

Sometime in December 2018, Net2 which is owned by Kennedy Agyaong broadcasted a video clip that purported to involve Hassan Zein dealing in fraud, drugs, money laundering, corruption amongst several others that were damaging and defamatory to his reputation and integrity, the suit which was copied to read.

That same video reportedly maintained that Zein had defrauded and swindled some people in the Republic of Togo, Nigeria, Mali, Ghana and Benin among others.

This suit comes after months of battling and alleged character assassination of Hassan Zein after he helped a family arrest a Yemenese national, Omar Mohammed Mahmudu who reportedly raped their 14-year-old daughter.

According to reports, sometime in December 2017, a fourteen-year-old girl was defiled by one Omar Mohammed Mahmudu (who goes by several names and nationalities depending on the particular passport, out of the several passports he holds), a Yemeni national resident somewhere at Spintex/Tema Community 18.

Following the alleged defilement, her family sought help from several persons, to ensure that the suspect was dealt with, but sadly, all their efforts did not yield the appropriate results, until they were directed at one Hassan Zein, a Ghanaian businessman resident in West Legon, Accra.

Through the hard work and efforts of Hassan Zein, the suspect was arrested by the Madina Police but was ‘released’ shortly afterwards.

Now it seems, Omar Mohammed Mahmudu had first secured a gang to repeatedly threaten Hassan Zein and his staff.

However, according to Zein’s lawyer, Justice Abudulai, there also seem to be a concerted effort to use social media and now mainstream media to attack the personality of Hassan Zein, in what looks like payback for helping the 14-year-old girl’s family to arrest him and continuously pursue the case.

“In addition to these threats of death, Omar Mohammed Mahmudu and his group of cohorts have commenced a dangerous but systematic campaign to destroy the hard-earned reputation of Hassan Zein, simply for the role, he continues to play in ensuring that justice is seen to be exacted for the unlawful conduct of Omar. This campaign has been done mainly through social media (to wit, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, amongst others), until recently when they adopted mainstream media to propagate the defamation and character assassination of Hassan Zein,” Lawyer Justice Abudulai wrote in a petition to the IGP back in December 2018.

This defamation suit is the latest twist in what has become the spiralling sexual assault case.
