Government To Centralize Emergency Distress Calls To “112” On All Networks

Ghana National Fire Service

When we watch Hollywood movies, whenever there is a problem.. be it the need for police, ambulance or fire service, the number they call is 911.

Now when you come to Ghana, the government is working on making 112 our go to emergency distress call number.

According to the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, very soon 112 that is already operational would become that one number everyone who needs emergency assistance would call for help.

He said the government was integrating the police, the fire service, the ambulance service and even the digital address system to the 112 call line.

Currently, when one calls the 122 call line, the person would have to provide vivid direction to wherever the emergency is needed, however, in the coming months, the Vice President said, this would not be required.

Dr Bawumia, who disclosed this at the Economic Management Team (EMT), said the once the digital address system is integrated into the 112 call line, once an emergency call is placed the emergency operator would instantly know the digital address when the phone call is coming, with this, it would be easier for emergency responders to locate the venue where the assistance is needed.

It would be more of you calling and telling the operator what emergency assistance you need, you wouldn’t have to spend extra time giving them directions to you.

We hope this is done well and soon.

Lots of lives would be saved.
