Three University of Ghana undergraduate students were selected to participate in the 10th Annual Hult Prize Regional Final Competition in Boston, United States of America.
The competition was hosted by the Hult International Business School – Boston Campus.
This followed a successful outcome of the University of Ghana Campus Edition competition during which they beat twenty-six teams. The team comprises Mr Gilles Ametepe, Mr Kingsley Adu-Okyere and Mr Ewura Adams Karim, known as the “Green Growth”.
The theme for this year’s edition is “For Us, By Us” – Solving Youth Unemployment. It is targeted at creating a business venture which can provide 10,000 young people with jobs over the next decade.
The Regionals offer participants the chance to showcase their social enterprise, with the possibility of advancing to the Global Finals and winning USD1 Million of funding in seed capital.
The students, who are from the Department of Political Science, French, the Business School and School of Performing Arts, made top 6 out of 40 teams in the regional competition.
The UG team are first ever African team to compete in Boston Regionals. They were also unofficially proclaimed the best-dressed team.
This year’s Hult Prize challenges participants to design innovative businesses as a way of solving the unemployment situation in the world. It is being held in 25 different cities across the world.
