The Savannah Centre For Contemporary Art To Celebrate The Life And Work Of Galle Winston Kofi Dawson

Renowned Ghanaian Artist, Ibrahim Mahama in collaboration with blaxTARLINES KUMASI and the College of Art at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will be opening an art space called the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA) in Tamale.

The Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art (SCCA) is an artist-run project space, exhibition and research hub, cultural repository and artists’ residency.

It is an initiative of Ghanaian artist, Ibrahim Mahama, as a contribution to the development and expansion of the contemporary art scene in Ghana.

The Centre is operated by committed, dedicated and generous persons who produce critical discourse that will eventually be disseminated through exhibitions, publications and allied activities.

SCCA-Tamale is dedicated to art and cultural practices which emerged in the 20th Century and inspire generations of artists and thinkers of the 21st Century and beyond.

The first exhibition which will open up the art space is titled: “In Pursuit of something ‘Beautiful’, perhaps…”. The exhibition is a retrospective on the work of Ghanaian modernist artist Galle Winston Kofi Dawson who coined the term Afro-Journalism to describe his socially-committed art practice.

The opening date for the art space is tomorrow, 15th March 2019 and it will close on 15th August 2019.
