According to a video posted on Twitter by @Sedemm, a number of immigration officers at the Kotoka International Airport are allegedly seizing the passports of individuals claiming that their passport are “virgin passports”.
@_Sedemm stated that the individuals whose passport were seized were asked to pay bribes before their passports would be given back to them.
According to @_Sedemm, to hold a “virgin passport” means you have never travelled outside the country. He further stated that the people whose passport were seized had to reschedule their flight and those who missed their flight had to pay GHC2,095 which is half the cost of the plane ticket.
@Sedemm also stated that 15 people who refused to pay the bribe missed their flight and out of the 15, there were some who went for loans.
If the reports by @_Sedemm are accurate, then, the authorities at the Kotoka International Airport must see to it that this behaviour exhibited by the immigration officers is checked and the culprits should be punished.
