What better way to celebrate women on our campus than to start with our SRC President.
Ho Technical University (HTU) went to the polls on Monday, April 30, 2018, to give the nod for the first time, to a female to steer the affairs of the student body.
Vera Fafa Agbenya made history when she secured 1,245 votes signifying 51.6% as against his male contender, Bright Delali Atakuma’s 1,140 representing 47.2% to become the University’s first female President of Students Representative Council (SRC), 50 years after its establishment.
Vera won the position that has been construed to be the preserve for men. Immediate Past President, Frederick Cobby Mudey was happy about the outcome of the election.
He disclosed that he supports women empowerment and sees Vera’s victory as historic and a dream come true.
2013/2014 HTU SRC General Secretary, Courage Christson Tetteh said, Vera’s victory was as a result of efforts made towards the progress of women and not just by chance.
The Institution had its first female rector five years ago (2014) and a first female SRC President last year (2018).
Vera’s duties have proved the point that the position of SRC President is not solely for men.
Kudos Madam President!
