Okyeame Kwame Says The Decision To Make French Ghana’s Second Language Is Disrespectful To The Country’s Pride And Culture

Okyeame Kwame has spoken against the government’s decision to make French Ghana’s second language.

Okyeame Kwame who is unhappy about the government’s decision went on Twitter to rant about the issue.

In his tweet, Okyeame Kwame stated that adopting French as a second language is disrespectful to our pride and culture.

He further went on to state that: “it is bad enough that our first language is another person’s language. What is wrong with making one of our local languages our first language?”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway at the 2019¬†La Francophonie week stated that it is the government’s major decision to make French the country’s second language. She also stated that the government will do well to make sure that the teaching of French will be carried out in all basic schools and across all levels of learning in the country as part of a general reform of Ghana’s education sector.

What do you also make of Okyeame Kwame’s argument? Should we consider making one of our local languages our first language? If yes, which one?
